Southview follows a leadership team model of church government. It is not pastor led nor is it led by a voting congregation. However, the input of the congregation is highly valued by the leadership team.
There are two main components to church leadership:
The Elders are responsible for the spiritual vision, oversight and leadership of the congregation. They attend to the spritual needs and concerns of Southview.
The Deacons are responsible for practical leadership of the congregation. This includes the receipt and use of all monies, the practical care of the facility and equipment, missionaries and the poor according to our mission and values.
Elders and deacons are appointed by current leadership in consultation with the congregation. People are chosen to be recognized as elders or deacons based on their existing involvement in the church, as well as following the guidelines set out in 1 Timothy and Titus. The congregation is asked to affirm the leadership at the annual meeting.
